Governance
EMPS is managed by AFAC, the National Council for fire and emergency services in Australasia.
The AFAC Council is made up of the heads of all government fire and emergency services, and land management agencies, in Australasia. As such it provides an authorising environment for EMPS to set professional standards for the practice of emergency management in Australia and New Zealand.
EMPS has been set up as a separate business area of AFAC under a Director who reports to the AFAC CEO, who in turn is responsible to the AFAC Board and Council for the administration of the scheme.
